What is Doodles NFT?

Doodles is a captivating collection of algorithmically generated, pastel-colored NFTs that feature quirky characters adorning various costumes and accessories. Owned by Doodles LLC, a Miami-based Web3 entertainment company, the project is the brainchild of Jordan "Poopie" Castro, Evan "Tulip" Keast, and Scott "Burnt Toast" Martin.

When did Doodles launch?

Doodles made its debut on October 16, 2021, selling out a mere 13 hours after launch. Each Doodles NFT had a mint price of 0.123 ETH (approximately $500 at the time). In a move that generated buzz and exclusivity, the team closed their official Discord server a month prior to the launch, providing whitelist access to early supporters. Once the project sold out, the Discord server was reopened to the public.

How many Doodles are there?

The Doodles NFT collection comprises exactly 10,000 digital art pieces. Distributed among 5,594 unique crypto wallets, roughly 56% of all Doodles are in the hands of unique owners. Transactions involving these NFTs incur a 5% creators' royalties fee. Doodles NFTs conform to the ERC-721 token standard.

Doodles Rarity

Doodles utilizes the ERC-721 token standard. Each piece contains a unique blend of 6 out of 265 possible Doodles traits, ranging from backgrounds to faces and haircuts. The artwork features an array of characters—humans, cats, apes, and more—in a variety of vibrant colors. The collection is divided into several rarity tiers, with 62 hand-drawn customs being the most rare. Post-sale, the development team has remained engaged, continually providing more utility for the collection.

Doodles Team & Community

The Doodles NFT collection’s co-founders are Evan “Tulip” Keast and Jordan “Poopie” Castro. In 2017 they worked at Dapper Labs on the blockchain game CryptoKitties as head of marketing and product lead, respectively.

The Doodles artist is a Canadian-based illustrator, designer, animator, and muralist Scott “Burnt Toast” Martin, who has worked with world-renowned companies like WhatsApp, World Health Organization (WHO), Google, Huawei, Snapchat, Dropbox, Red Bull, and Adobe.

The Doodles team updated its ranks with three additional members. In May 2022, former President of the American music and entertainment magazine, Billboard, Julian Holguin joined the team as a partner and CEO, and a month later American musician Pharrell Williams became the project’s Chief Brand Officer and board member. Both of them are to help Doodles focus on music, animated films, and consumer goods. Lastly, on September 13, 2022, Brandon Rosenblatt also joined the team as the Head of Brand Partnerships.

The community of the project consists of over 67,000 Discord members, more than 379,000 Twitter followers, and about 77,000 Instagram followers.

Pharrell Williams, as a Doodles team member, produces a music album called Doodles Records: Volume 1 in partnership with Columbia Records.

Additionally, Doodles has raised $54 million in a Series A fundraising round at a $704 million valuation. Seven Seven Six, Alexis Ohanian’s venture capital firm, who is known for being Reddit’s co-founder, led the funding round, together with Acrew Capital, FTX Ventures, and 10T Holdings.

Doodles Benefits

Ownership of a Doodles NFT confers several benefits. Besides profile picture rights on social media platforms, Doodles LLC also allows holders to merchandise their NFTs for up to $100,000 in sales of physical goods. Further Doodles value can be derived in the form of governance voting, where each Doodle equates to one vote in community decisions.

The team has also released 3 additional projects all bringing value to Doodles holders - Space Doodles on February 28, 2022, Dooplicator on May 12, 2022, and Genesis Box on June 29, 2022.

The Doodles project aims to be more than just a Profile Picture (PFP) NFT initiative; it seeks to evolve into a comprehensive Web3 entertainment company. It has already made its presence felt in real-world events like Heart Basel Miami and the 2022 Doodles Genesis Factory, using these platforms to unveil various upcoming projects such as Doodles’ first fundraise, Doodles 2, and Doodles Records.

In a bid to connect the digital and physical worlds, the team is focusing on community initiatives like art installations and concert merchandise. A significant move in their roadmap was the acquisition of Golden Wolf, an award-winning animation studio, to emphasize narrative storytelling, world-building, and character development.

Doodles Roadmap

Doodles has ambitious plans, including the launch of Doodles 2, a dynamic NFT collection that allows for trait migration from the original Doodles collection. Although the project is still under wraps, it promises to bring significant value to existing Doodles holders.

Where to Buy Doodles NFT?

You can acquire Doodles NFTs from marketplaces such as OpenSea and LooksRare. Currently, the floor price hovers around 1.3-1.4 ETH putting the cheapest Doodles NFT in the price range of $2,100. The most expensive Doodle to date, #6914, fetched a staggering 296.69 ETH or approximately $1.1 million.
