Winamp announces support for music NFTs with its latest update
In August this year, the popular 90s music player Winamp announced its return releasing its v5.9 update after four years of development. Now, the former key player in digital music innovations announced its v5.9.1 update. Among the features of the new version of the player is support for music NFTs.
We are proud to announce a new version (5.9.1) for our Desktop player. This new version reduces Winamp’s memory footprint and upgrades security among many other improvements, it also allows you to play your music NFTs. New version available now.

The new Winamp will allow users to connect their Metamask wallets via popular browsers Chrome and Firefox, as well as the web3 browser Brave. The NFT support spawns ERC-721 and ERC-1155 standards both on Ethereum and Polygon.
Furthermore, Winamp plans to combine its NFT support update with other upcoming features, aiming to establish the project as a universal, advanced listening platform in early 2023.
At the same time, Warner Music Group just announced plans to release music NFTs through a marketplace on Polygon called LGND Music. LGND Music is planned to launch in January 2023 primarily offering music files in the form of NFTs, but also listing digital collectibles from music artists.
